Tip aka Oscar

Tip is gaining well and is beginning to come out of his shell.  He is great with the many cats here, letting them come visit him in his hiding place under the bed (that’s up on blocks)

or nosing Pearl kitty, who loves all the dogs. He is still very frightened of anything unfamiliar or anything he does recognize but doesn’t expect, like a familiar sound.  He occasionally comes out on his own but even then is stressed and is only comfortable

under the coffee table, just like under the bed.  To be in an open room, even in a corner still scares him but he’ll walk through them without lead tension vs. a week ago he had to be almost dragged, or carried.  He is walking well on the line, no  longer circling when he feels tension.

His pads are healing and he is showing more curiosity and calmness outside where he is more familiar with what he sees and smells.  He has had a few incidents of marking/setting up to mark when he first gets up, no doubt from not knowing there is inside versus outside behavior but is almost a non issue now.

He likes to play with a sock or rag when he feels safe which is under the bed or table and he will roll and yawn, snort and stretch like a puppy.  He is learning to trust but his underlying fear is so strong and will take time,

understanding, patience and consistency to help him learn not to indulge his fear and to convince him by showing him that every single day, hands and objects won't hurt him anymore.

Tip is just 1 1/2 years old, and lost most of his tail as a puppy, when it became tangled in a fence, is what we were told.
